I am 38yr old Steamfitter from San Diego, California.I met my filipina 07/02/08 in Manila....we spend the next 20 days traveling to Bohol and CDO.I knew she was special from the first day....but I realized how much i loved her when i was back home. I will visit her in July-August 09.....i will surprise her with her engagement ring in Camiguin.

You can do it on your own. All of the forms are available on the government websites. I'll see if I can get my fiancee' to get online and give you some links.

I hired a lawyer because I didn't want any mistakes and it probably cost me about 4 extra months. We applied for our K1 in August and she was at her interview with people who had applied in December. So do it yourself and save some money.

Also, if you have anything like a divorce in your background, make sure to have a copy of the decree to send in with your application. And any court records for any other arrests. I had a little hold up for having a DWI way back when.

Keep lots of records of communications between you. I printed out our Skype conversations. They asked her for records of "remittances" which would be the guy sending money to the girl. She didn't have any records because we didn't do that, but all of the other girls had large stacks. Also copies of your airline tickets and hotel receipts and pictures together. You will need at least 6 pics of the two of you together.

Hi Vic,

Welcome! Ziggy is right, you can do this yourself; however, you need to keep checking the USCIS (Citizenship and Immigration Service) web site to make sure that you are meeting the latest requirements, especially the fees for the forms. The fees change periodically. If the fee goes up and you sent the old fee, they will just send EVERYTHING back to you and you will have to send it again, with the correct fee. This is not really a problem, but it does slow things down.

Do not be shy about asking even the smallest question here in the forum. Most of have been through this already [or we are going through it now] so there is a lot of good, helpful and free advice available here.

Finally, just a word of caution. Vic, I am not trying to throw water on the fire, but I advise you to read a lot of the different areas and posts here in the forum, so you can be prepared for the big changes that are going to happen in your life and......to make sure that you making the right choices at the right time. Some guys have been burned...some have found heaven on earth. Use the experience here in the forum to make sure that you have a good outcome.

Also, feel free to PM me at anytime.

Daby

Click here for the USCIS site. From there, you can start with Form 325A and scroll down to the bottom of the page for the "download" link. Lots of forms on that page, you'll need some of them.

Also, the contact number for the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) is helpful. Sometimes the wait is long, but they can tell you which forms you need give you other general information.

Thaks so much for the info....I been to the USCIS site and gonna start the 325A. Though i'm not familiar what this form is for? I bought a book "US Immigration Made Easy"....and try it alone. I will often be here to ask many more question,im sure?
I do have paper work: Emails,Yahoo IMs,hotel, airline tickets, and western union reciets.

Daby thank you very much also for your concerns.....I have already experienced many burns in the process before i met Roma. I do actually have questions about the future: homesickness, adjusting to living in the US,legal forms?

well anyways i booked my flight August 11th - 31st.......wish me luck?

Will this be your first trip?

This is not really a plug for Bob's book , but you might want to take a look at http://www.filipinawives.com/ . It is the predecessor for this forum and Bob lists a lot of topics [you can read samples on the site; scroll down to the bottom of the page] that are or will be important to you.

Also, stop using Western Union IMMEDIATELY! Their fees are exorbitant and you can do much better with something like http://xoom.com/. I only used it twice and went directly from my checking account to her bank account (she had a debit ATM card). The rates were very good. The first time took a couple of days. It may have been because I did the transaction over the weekend or it may have been because it was the first time. But the second time it was instantaneous.

Here's a comparison between Xoom and WU. You don't have to go broke to show that you love her.

can anyone help our k1 problem?

Hello everyone! i'm new here. i fopuld this site looking for a help our problem with our k1 visa application.
We already got our NOA2 last May 22 and was already sent to the NVC stayed there for 1 and half month then they send us a letter that they sent it back to the USCIS for further review. Then they changed our status online to further review on USCIS.
Now we got a letter from the USCIS that our K1 visa was sent to the assigned consul/embassy then send it back to them and it was already expired and not revalidated so they ask us to re apply again with fee.
We thought that this was wrong 'coz it wasnt send yet to the Manila embassy, it was gone to NVC and on our NOA2 the expiration would be on 22th of Sept., so how could it be expired???
Does anyone ever got a problem like this before? Pls give us advice.
God bless to all..

Vayne,

I'm guessing that you have not received any responses yet because it seems that there is a lot of information missing from you post about how and why your case has taken this particular path. Perhaps, in your case, there are some special circumstances which may require professional assistance. Have you consulted an immigration attorney? A consultation will not cost very much and it may at least get you on the right track or give you some answers about what has happened.
