Philippine passport renewal

Hi, all. My wife's passport needs to be renewed, but how? The only thing I've been able to find on the internet is information saying we/she has to make a personal appearance at the consolate in California (we live in Ohio). There's gotta be another way. Any information? Many thanks.

We have a friend here in Florida that has the same problem and she has to go to Washington DC (they are going up the end of this month) to renew they have changed the policy for renewals and you have to make a personal appearance, she called and they told her there is no other way.

Only the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila prints the Machine Readable Passports (MRP). Applications received by the Embassy will be sent to the DFA, Manila via diplomatic pouch. In view of the transit time, it will now take SIX (6) weeks for a passport to be released to the applicants, from the time the application is accepted.

All applicants whether for the renewal of a passport or those applying for the first time MUST appear personally at the Consular Office of the Embassy to affix his thumb mark and sign his application form. Applications by mail cannot be accepted.

I would call the Chicago office and check wih them:
Chicago, IL

30 N Michigan Ave Suite 2100, Chicago IL 60602 | Tel: 312.332.6458 | Fax: 312.332.3657 | chicagopcg.com

Consul General: Blesila C. Cabrera

Jurisdiction: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin

Bruce, hi. Yes, I've been on the phone to our congressman's office today to see if they could shake loose some information for us and was then able to find the Chicago site for the Consulate General/Philippines. However the site, as far as I can find, makes no mention of having to show up in person, tho I'm sure that's the case. This is perhaps the most stupid, inconvienient thing we've had to do yet. Just to get a passport renewed. Thanks, Bruce.

well, the heck with this

Screw traveling to Chicago. My wife says she'll just apply for U.S. citizenship, which she has been here long enough to do, and then get a U.S. passport. She and I both can't beleive the Philippine government make it so had on it's citizens, well, wait, as corrupt as the Philippine government is yes we can.
