annulment

Hi all! Me and my former husband were still filipino citizens when we got our divorce granted. We just recently got our canadian citizenship, and based on my research, our divorce is not aknowledged in the Philippines because we were still Filipino citizens at that time. I would like to go for annulment. Can anyone who went through the same dilemma recommend a lawyer specializing in this case? How long was the process and how much did it cost? Thank you so much.

If you are currently Canadian citizens then your divorce should be able to be 'recognized' in the Philippines, so long as you don't reaquire Philippine citizenship. Because you are Canadian, not Filipino (under the eyes of the law). If you have already reaquired Philippine citizenship or do so in the future things become a little more murky because as far as i know there has not been any court case regarding that situation (although it is probably just a matter of time). Of course, you could always be that 'test case'.

Practically speaking, however, it does not matter unless you want to get remarried in the Philippines.
