Economic Times II - 01/09/09

The "lay-off" at the company where Wing works has been extended from 3 weeks to 6 weeks. It was announced yesterday.
The co-workers had scheduled a party for tonight, to celebrate the return to work. The party went on as scheduled, but there was not much celebrating.
Long faces and quiet whispers... about mortgages, car payments and other bills and expressions of the real fear of flat running out of money. They didn't even fire up the karaoke machine.
For some, that job at the company is the only income that family has. Some have filed claims for unemployment insurance. A few had just bought new houses or new cars....they are really worried. Rumors are starting to fly around about another extension to the lay off or even the plant closing altogether.
No doubt, these are tough times all around and things may get tougher. But still, we believe that we can work hard and make it. God Bless the USA.
