Nursing Info Anyone

I'll say up front I am not looking for advice...but I would appreciate any information anyone has about the nursing programs in the Philippines. ( 4 year RN program)
Eve's oldest niece will be graduating HS at the end of this year, and is interested in becoming a RN. I have been told there is a very good school there in Cebu City that she has checked into. My main concern is if after completing a program in the Philippines, she would be considered for a RN position in the USA or England. Has anyone had any experience with this?
Any other info or recommandations on schools, etc.

well i could give you some schools where she could inquire like Cebu Doctors University, Velez College, University of San Carlos, Gullas College of Medicine, University of Cebu, southwestern university. The 1st 3-schools have counterparts in the US where most subjects are credited. These are expensive schools but if you're on a budget then go for the last 2 schools mentioned above. Anyway as long as she passed the board exam then it really doesn't matter what school she came from. Nursing jobs booms each passing year yet i've heard UK is no longer accepting nursing applicants from other countries like the Philippines. Here in the US i still doubt it will reach that point since there's a greater demand here for nurses. :P

I don't know much about the nursing programs there, only about the hospitals. Manila has some very modern hospitals. Cebu has 1-2 that are nice. Most are like the one my fiance had her baby at (Mactan Doctors Hospital). I saw no digital anything, IV's, Temp Probes, BP devices.. Everything reminded me of 1950's USA.

Keeping that in mind I'd say if she does do an RN program there make sure it's not a cheap one. You want a well funded school where she might get to use a few of the appliances she'll see in the USA. As for jobs in the USA, there is a huge business in the Phils placing nurses in USA jobs. They charge a huge fee for it, but many RN's leave the phils to work in USA starting at $30-$40/hr. so it is a very good trade to have.

Look at this link, and scroll to the bottom for newest posts. It's a forum about philippine nurses working internationaly. There is a lot of info on the various philippine RN programs.

I felt sorry for you why u sent your wife to a rural hospital if you look for a high tech one. You should have gone to the city where most hight tech hospitals are namely : Chong-Hua Hospital, Perpetual Soccour or Cebu Doctors Hospital. My aunt had her c-section in CDUH and they paid $3000 for it. Well if your in a budget then that's the right hospital you went to or some other government hospital. :P

It wasn't like she went to a rural hospital. Mactan Doctors Hospital is just over the bridge from Cebu, and is the sister hospital of Cebu Doctors hospital which is decent. Her OB/GYN works out of MDH, and lives around the corner. I didn't know how bad it was till I arrived there with Debra in labor. And I didn't know there was anything better. I'm not sure it was a "Discount Hospital" either. 78,000p for a c-section and sick baby, private aircon room. Now I know, live and learn.

Yeah it's an extension of CDUH, my other aunt is an anesthesialogist based in CDUH and have some operations done in MDH if the patient can't afford the charges in CDH. It's not well-equip though but if u look for an upscale hospital then the city is the best place to find. I live in a condo in Mactan near the MDH and went their one time to have a dental xray but decline because i dont like their facility and prompt me to travel to the city to do it. MDH is a government hospital and some of college classmates works there as pharmacist. Private hospitals are in the city. Yes your right, evrything in this world prompt us to live and learn. :P

Back to the original topic. I'm sure you will find a few well equipped Nursing Schools, and many poor ones. They are going to vary a lot in quality, just like the hospitals. Choose carefully, and don't be too cheap! - Joe

So did I get banned from asawa forums or what? I can't post anyplace without seeing the error "Only Administrators can post"

Also, the Calling Texting area has disappeared. And I have replies to my messages waiting there. I told someone how to unlock any Nokia phone for free was all.

I've recieved no PM's from management here. Maybe it's a bug? I don't mind getting kicked from someplace, but no explanation or warning is very shady. I had to edit this post since I can't post new messages anyplace anymore. Maybe I'll just re-register. I have 640 email addresses I can use from my web site...Smile - Joe
